763. New Singapore Legends of Islands Stamps.


  As mentioned in Blog 758, Singapore Post will issue 8 stamps on 25 May 2016 as the second part of its myths and legends series. The issue features the myths surrounding the Sisters' Islands, named after 2 sisters who loved each other so much that they drowned themselves when pirates threatened to separate them after which the islands appeared, and Kusu Island, also named Turtle Island after a giant turtle had rescued 2 fishermen there.   Bhutan Post has issued a sheetlet of 8 different stamps and 1 miniature sheet on the subject of "Eight auspicious symbols" which are said to represent the body of the Buddha and are symbols of good fortune. I do not yet know the date of issue. Rating:- *****.





  India Post issued a single commemorative stamp on 21 May 2016 to commemorate the Birth centenary of Swami Chidananda, President of  the Divine Life Society and known as a yogi, jnani and spiritual leader. Rating:- *.


  Hong Kong Post will issue a set of 6 stamps and a pane of 18 stamps (3 sets of the 6 stamps se-tenant) on 6 June 2016 on the subject of Hong Kong toys 1940's to 1960's. The interesting designs are by Wong Siu-kin and Clement Yick and lithographed by Enschede and perforated 13.5 x 14.5. Rating:- ****.





  Two of the new definitives stamps from New Zealand Post were issued on 18 May 2016 in self-adhesive format in booklets  ($11 [5 x $2.20 values] and $13.50 [5 x $2.70 values]), the covers of which are depicted below:-



Royal Mail will issue a set of 6 stamps, 1 miniature sheet containing 4 different stamps and 1 "Prestige booklet" containing 4 different panes on 25 June 2016 as the third part of its series which commemorates the centenary of the First World War. The miniature sheet is devoted to commemorating the role of The Post Office Rifles regiment in the war.
The designs depict "Battlefield Poppy" by Giles Revell, a quote from the poem "To my brother" by Vera Brittain of Staffordshire, a photograph of female munitions worker (Lottie Meade who died of TNT poisoning in 1916 due to her work), the painting "Trawler arriving with wounded" by Stanley Spencer, the Thiepval Memorial at Somme in France and a commemorative medal of the Battle of Jutland belonging to Captain AC Green.
  The stamps were designed by Hat-trick Design and lithographed by International Security Printers. Rating:- *****.










  Two of the panes of the "Prestige booklet" contain the 6 commemorative stamp (3 different stamps per pane), 1 pane is made up by the miniature sheet and the remaining pane is made up of 4 definitive-size poppy stamps, plus the 3 regional flag stamps from England, Scotland and Wales and the Northern Ireland patchwork of fields stamp but no Machin Head definitives are included in the booklet.
